Pine Forest Residence

Pine Forest Residence

Reminiscent of Houston’s pre-war residential construction in scale and character, this new home for a family of four comfortably accommodates modern family life. Rendered in elegant brick, cedar shingle, and painted-wood windows, a pair of two-story wings flanks a central glass-enclosed volume to organize the house into public and private areas. The plan leaves generous open lawn and garden areas for outdoor activities and a screened porch provides an outdoor living area with easy access from the main living spaces. To create a connection between the adults’ spaces downstairs and the children’s domain upstairs, the first floor library is open to a kids’ library/homework room above. This allows parents and children a measure of privacy, while keeping a subtle visual and auditory connection. A guest room and TV/playroom are also located upstairs.
