Koelsch Gallery

In keeping with the industrial character of the neighborhood, we use authentic, hard-working materials—steel framing, cement-board siding, concrete floors, exposed-timber beams, unfinished plywood, and plate glass—to give this new gallery an urban aesthetic. The angular, asymmetric form of the building and the unexpected placement of the windows hint at the adventurous nature of the exhibitions within. Inside, we developed a flexible floorplan that allows administration space to blend with the main gallery in a way that’s both useful and unusual.
