Each of our designs is different because each of our clients is different. At Dillon Kyle Architects, we take every client on a journey of discovery, exploration, and meaningful collaboration. From one-of-a-kind residences, to cultural and educational facilities, to commercial buildings and beyond, our projects are architecturally sophisticated, spatially rich, and thoughtfully executed.
Our fresh, contemporary designs are based on a keen understanding of architectural heritage and location, combined with a forward-thinking vision for the future. We’re fluent in the language of space, light, and proportion, and we draw our clients into the creative conversation. Balancing progressive ideas with restraint and elegance, we design houses and buildings that fit into their neighborhoods.
We love what we do and we love working with our clients. So, come join the conversation, and let’s create something great together.
Dillon Kyle Architects is a proud participant of the voluntary disclosure program known as JUST, and in 2021, we were the first JUST organization within the City of Houston. The JUST Label is a social transparency platform managed by the International living Future Institute (ILFI), an organization that manages the Living Building Challenge – arguably one of the most rigorous building certifications in the architecture industry. The JUST program aids organizations in optimizing their policies in social equity and employee engagement through the achievement of the following goals:
- To elevate the discussion around social justice in all organizations,
- To create a common language for social justice issues,
- To elevate the causes of those individuals who lead these issues,
- To change the policies and practices of thousands of organizations worldwide,
- To make life better for people from all walks of life.
DKA’s participation in JUST is an extension of their commitment to positive community impact through thoughtfully executed design. In support of corporate transparency, DKA will hold an annual audit of their data in order to monitor the company’s continual improvement in social equity.

“I love the landscape of Texas. I’m drawn to it. I don’t love the beach or the ocean. I don’t love the mountains. There’s something about this middle landscape, this normal, average, Texas landscape, that I find particularly beautiful.”

“Architecture
is one of the best professions in the world! Where else can you be part of a
creative process and literally watch your efforts come to life? We get to
work with people who want to contribute to something very special. Thinking
about my time with the firm, I’m reminded of a quote that my grandfather had
framed and kept on his desk: ‘If you chose a job you love, you will never have
to work a day in your life.’ Outside the office, I cherish time spent with my
family—at home, on the road, and all the places in between.”

“On a daily basis, I think it’s too easy to get caught up in the business and practice of architecture. Taking time away from my desk and the daily grind reminds me of why I pursued architecture in the first place. Travel, reading, and a good glass of wine—all things that transport me in one way or another—allow me to step back, appreciate, and experience my environment. Similarly, seeing the world through the eyes of my family enriches my perspective on spaces of all scales.”

“I enjoy spaces
that can be considered both exterior and interior. Spending time outside—I

“I have recently developed a passion for building scale models of my design work out of Lego pieces. Lego essentially provides a prefabricated ‘kit of parts’ that can be used to build almost anything. Building in this format forces me to balance aesthetics with constructability, which is an important underlying concept in architecture. I have found that by rethinking a certain connection, or by cleverly repurposing a certain piece, one can discover a better solution to a design problem.
I think this helps my understanding of architecture because it sharpens my ability to think of multiple ways in which something can be built, and also increases my ability to quickly analyze different combinations of materials in order to produce the most beautiful and yet efficient solution to a design problem.”

"Architecture requires a unique blend of critical and creative thinking. Most of my leisure pursuits are an extension of this mindset, which results in a lot of quiet intensity in the day to day. A lot of my extra time is spent volunteering for local AIA organizations, with a focus on education and community growth. My wife and I frequently travel and go camping to recharge and reconnect with nature."

"Most people experience famous architecture through photography. Photography has the ability to capture a building at a point in time, demonstrate how a building looks under different conditions, and catch a viewer’s attention. In my opinion photography and other forms of architectural visualization are vital in conveying the ideas of architect to a larger audience."

"I’ve been in love with gardening and photographing
landscapes ever since I was a kid. I believe my love of nature has influenced
my approach to design through my focus on providing sustainable and
ecologically resilient environments. As architects, I believe it is our
responsibility to optimize the built environment through architectural research
and innovation, so that we can provide communities with resilient designs that
prioritize their well-being."

"Traveling and spending time in nature can enrich architecture and our perspective of it. By understanding and observing architecture in other geographies, we can better create a more relevant and purposeful built environment, regardless of destination."

"For me, my interests in traveling and architecture have always fed off of one another. Each new place I visit allows
me to experience cultures and settings first-hand while at the same time further my understanding of how vastly
different architecture can be. Learning that elements from history, the cities or countries themselves, as well as
local people, can all influence a design and how the architecture itself can affect the surrounding area. These
experiences and knowing the impact that a building or space can have is what drives my passion."

"I like to experience architecture through traveling. No matter how strange the country or the language is, you can always have a personal experience with its built environment. And sometimes, that inspires you to new ways of design to apply back home. Those experiences do not depend only on architecture, but also on the moment and the person that you are at that moment. I like to re-watch movies that I used to watch when I was younger and feel how differently I react to them. I wish to do the same with architecture once I’m old, to revisit those places and learn how differently they make me feel.
When not at the office, my favorite moments are while cooking and enjoying a good meal with my husband and daughter."

"Architecture is the backdrop of our everyday life. It’s the light that shines through a window in just the right way that can brighten our day. It’s how we can remember a funny story because of where we were sitting in a room when it happened. It’s the setting in which we live our lives through and the keeper of so many stories."

"I’ve learned a lot working with architects over the years. Since they are continually tasked with creating something new, there’s a real sense of an innovative and collaborative atmosphere in the office. The need to improve upon what’s been done before leads to new challenges that require new solutions. Basically, never a dull moment. Plus, an office dog is a huge perk!"

I spent a lot of time touring historic homes and buildings along the east coast growing up in Connecticut. Working in an environment where I get to witness the creative process of home design in its entirety, gives me a greater appreciation for the architectural process from so long ago. I am most moved when modern elements are worked into old architecture.

"I truly enjoy helping others, especially in ways that aren’t always noticeable in the moment, but over time make a large difference. And as a creative person who loves structure and rules, I feel that architecture melds the two in a way that many other creative practices cannot."
