Emery/Weiner School Pavilion

Emery/Weiner School Pavilion

Set on the grounds of a college prep school, our design for this pavilion draws on two very different sources: the classic Greek amphitheater and the Jewish sukkah. The result is a welcoming landmark on the campus. While the pavilion is used formally in the celebration of a religious holiday, its everyday role as a gathering point for students makes it a hub of social activity. The stepped limestone base of the circular structure can be used for seating, or as a stage for performances. Overhead, a slatted aluminum pergola forms a strong, graceful arc, framing a view of the sky.
