Troon Residence

A challenging site — small and steeply sloped — guided much of our design for this new home, which is set in a well-established neighborhood of circa 1930s dwellings. Because we tucked the garage and basement deep into the side of the hill, we were able to take full advantage of the above-ground portion of the lot and maximize the amount of living space on the two upper stories of the house. Window walls and an open floor plan combine to both frame beautiful views of the tree-covered hillside and let daylight flow throughout the interior. While the modern design of the house fits the style of the family, we used traditional materials — stone and wood — to make the exterior compatible with its forested location.
