This renovation and addition responds to its context of a neighborhood of existing 1960s vintage single-story ranch houses that is being transformed by the appearance of new two-story homes. The scale of the house blends with both the original and new neighbors and accommodates a more open plan the owners wanted to accommodate their modern lifestyle with three children at home. The renovation and addition stay within the language of the existing house, especially on the exterior, and create a relaxed, unpretentious, and comfortable atmosphere.
The new expanded kitchen interior fits within the existing envelope but is completely updated and opened to adjacent family spaces. Kyle also updated the master bath using a simple color palette of whites and greens to cerate a sophisticated and understated space that evokes its history within modern amenities and comforts. This project embodies Kyle’s effort to capture an established, lived-in home’s unique feeling and expand that sensation into a renovation that is integrated seamlessly with the existing building.
