Designed for a couple who are connoisseurs of art and antiques, this home complements their eclectic collection of paintings, furniture, and objects and creates a refined ambience for entertaining. Although a Georgian formality sets the tone for the elegant reclaimed brick exterior and lead-coated copper roof, the design also reflects the eclectic nature of the clients’ collection. Some pieces from the collection, including a Gothic inspired mantelpiece and antique Delft tiles, were also incorporated into the home’s design and construction.
A great room, with its high vaulted ceiling and exposed beams reclaimed from a warehouse in Massachusetts forms the central focus of the downstairs spaces and creates a functional gallery space for large furniture and art pieces, which were carefully considered in the design. Rather than fencing the property for privacy from the adjacent golf course, the landscaping provides a visual connection to the expansive green space, opening views from the house and a screened porch sited to overlook the golf course.
