Southampton Residence

We appreciate the integrity of historic architecture, so this opportunity to right the wrongs of a modern addition to this 1930s house was especially rewarding. A misguided remodeling left the living room and dining room of the home literally in the dark—a bulky, flat-roofed addition blocked daylight from reaching these rooms. We removed that part of the building and replaced it with a more appropriately-sized component: a new kitchen that links the original house with the den. Not only does our design open the home to the sun, it also gives structure to the backyard by framing the pool. While the homeowner was responsible for the interior design, we created the exterior treatment for the addition. Bringing a little bit of contemporary texture to the home, its parquet-like composition of white-painted wood plays off of the brick pattern of the main house.
